Welcome Message From Our Principal
It is a great honour to welcome you to our school website. I hope you enjoy perusing this website and gain a snapshot of the various activities in our school.
Coolick National School is a vibrant co-educational Primary School nestled in the heart of Kilcummin parish and only 10 minute’s drive from Killarney town. We have 5 mainstream class teachers, 2 Special Education Teachers and 3 SNAs.
We have a hugely popular Preschool operating at Coolick. The Preschool is effectively managed by Ciara Moynihan and offers a morning and afternoon session either as part of the ECCE scheme or privately. The Preschool is a very important part of life in our school and our Pre-schoolers are very familiar with the school surroundings when they start here as Junior Infants.
We are very proud of our large astro-turf which is a huge testament to the willpower, organisation and hard work ethic of our wonderful Parents Association. Our body of parents are highly engaged and active in terms of fundraising and partaking in school events. Our school life has been greatly enriched by this wonderful group of parents and we sincerely thank them for their commitment to the school.
Our staff are highly dedicated and committed to providing an enjoyable, holistic and broad education to all. Coolick NS is a warm, nurturing and caring school where teaching and learning occurs in a fun, engaging and inclusive manner. Our staff seek to embrace the personality of each child and embolden it with varied, conscientious and child-centred teaching methods.
Generally, we find our pupils are articulate with a respectful confidence and assuredness to engage with each other and adults alike. Our school boasts a homely atmosphere where pupil and staff well-being are foremost in our list of priorities.
Coolick NS has a great community spirit and rest assured, visitors to our school will receive a warm and friendly welcome from staff, pupils and parents. Each day we assume our various roles with great consideration and respect for our motto, ‘Ni neart go chur le chéile’, there is no strength without unity.
I hope you enjoy our website and please don’t hesitate to contact us should you require any further information.

Our School History
"The local primary school is a focal point in the community. We are a small community within a larger community. The existence of the school over the decades has given the area a focal point - a certain sense of standing out on its own.
Coolick school is the oldest of the three schools in the parish, it is the only one from a structural point of view that has withstood the test of time..."
Mission Statement
Coolick National School is a caring learning environment where each child is welcomed, respected, cherished and facilitated in reaching their full potential.
We provide a learning environment where staff and parents work in partnership through mutual respect to develop the spiritual, personal and academic potential of each child according to his/ her talents, skills and abilities.
We celebrate the uniqueness of each child as expressed in each child’s personality, ability and potential for development. We aim to nurture each pupil in all dimensions of their life - spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical.
As a Christian community we aim to be a warm and welcoming place respectful and accommodating of diversity in race, culture, religion, gender and ability. We aim to promote equality and support all pupils.
We are an integral part of the parish of Kilcummin and in partnership with parents and the Church we aim to nurture the Catholic faith through religious education, preparation for the sacraments and through our school ethos.
We recognise parents are their child’s primary educators and we strive to empower and utilise parents to be actively involved in their child’s education and the life of our school.
We value our relationship with our local community and actively promote the school’s involvement in the community.
