Coolick Preschool
Coolick Preschool is a community based preschool.. The pre-school operates two sessions on a daily basis. We cater for children 2 years 6 months to 5 years 6 months. Coolick preschool adheres to regulations set out by TUSLA, DCYA and HSE. We work within the Siolta quality framework and the Aistear curriculum framework.
Coolick Preschool engages in a play based and child-led curriculum. We believe play is the foundation of learning and the way in which children make sense of the world around them. We encourage children to have a positive attitude and respect for both themselves and others. Relevant and meaningful experiences make learning more enjoyable and our curriculum is adapted to support the individual needs and interests of the children in our care. We aim to provide a happy, safe, warm and stimulating environment for all children to play, learn and develop as confident and competent learners.
Our staff provide a warm welcoming atmosphere and develop caring relationships between children, parents and other staff. All staff are fully trained and qualified. We are committed to delivering high quality childcare with staff regularly undertaking continuous professional development. All staff have child protection training and a qualified first aider is on site at all times. The pre-school may have students at different stages during the school year.
The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Scheme provides early childhood care and education for children of pre-school age. Children can start ECCE when they are 2 years and 8 months of age on September 1st of the year that they will be starting and continue until they transfer to primary school (provided that they are not older than 5 years and 6 months at the end of the pre-school year).
Children on the ECCE scheme (free Pre-School) will receive 3 hour sessions for 5 days a week. All children are entitled to 2 full academic years on the ECCE scheme. These weeks are inline with the school calendar. To establish your child’s eligibility, parents will be asked for details such as the child’s name, date of birth and PPS number. Children that do not qualify for this scheme may attend if places are available (a fee will apply).
We have extensive facilities for our preschool children including a sheltered outdoor play area with many trikes, scooters, hoops and much more. We also have use of the school’s Astro turf and basketball court.
We have the resources and facilities required to fully engage with the Aistear programme.
